Event Report - BE100 at Pulborough, 12th October 2013

30th October 2013
A bit late (& short!) but here’s my report from the last event of the season… After the double clear at BCA it was off to Pulborough for the last run of the season. Queue early morning departures and a two-hour drive… Luckily that went fine and on the Saturday we had nice sunny weather (it rained Friday & Sunday).

Dressage was a total disaster!!! No not because I went wrong or Trad was particularly bad but because we came up against the dressage judge from hell! We scored 54.5… Nothing else I can say really! Here’s the test and video, I'll let you decide!

The show jumping on paper was great with another clear! It didn't feel perfect as Trad reverted slightly to type and decided to look at the surroundings meaning I had to override a bit, however luckily for me he is extremely careful and didn't touch a pole. Here’s the video…

The cross country was frustrating… again! Walking it, it was a nice course probably one of the toughest I have done this season, on a par with Wellington but this time I felt a lot more confidence. Basically it put together a lot of the fences I had jumped at other events all into one course. There were two water jumps, steps up and down, jumps with ditches (eek), corners and a couple of big solid fences.

99% of the cross-country was perfect (also similar to Wellington), the one 1% which wasn’t, was the big log with ditch in front as Trad looked at it and stopped! Very frustrating as he'd already flown the trakehner earlier on the course and at the previous event. However this aside he was great and his general attitude was a lot more positive, raring to go in the start box and pulling me into the fences rather than having to be constantly driven. Here’s the headcam / video footage…

That’s was that and the season was finished. I'll be posting again soon with an end of season report, looking at my first season in 10 years and what worked and didn’t! Stay tuned and thanks for reading!

The fence we stopped at, clear second time!
